Finding a Dance School in Berlin: The PXbJ Guide for Beginners
Looking for a dance school in Berlin and not sure where to start? Fair enough — the city is full of studios, styles and pricing models. At PXbJ, we make the decision easy: here's everything you should know before your first class with us.
What is PXbJ?
PXbJ is a Berlin-based dance brand with two studios in the city: Oudenarder Str. 16-20 in Wedding and Schleusenufer 4 in Kreuzberg. Our open classes all take place in Wedding — the Kreuzberg studio is where our crew and creators rehearse. Our signature format is Heels — many of our classes take place on heels, with the exact format shaped by coach, style and choreography. We teach two core movement disciplines: Hip-Hop (including House, Vogue, Oldschool & Newschool) and Contemporary (including Modern Dance, Ballet, Flow Work and more) — for absolute beginners and professionals alike, for adults and teens.
Which style is right for me?
It’s the question we get most often — and honestly, we’d rather ask it differently: at PXbJ, it’s less about finding “your style” and more about finding your coach. Dance lives on a coach’s spirit and experience — so it’s worth sampling a few different classes and noticing who you connect with, rather than committing to a style upfront. A few starting points:
- Hip-Hop — beats, groove and attitude, including House, Vogue, Oldschool and Newschool.
- Contemporary — flowing, expressive movement and fine-tuned storytelling, including Modern Dance, Ballet and Flow Work.
Heels are our signature format and present in many classes — not every one; coach and choreography decide. And either way: no prior experience needed.
How does getting started work?
At PXbJ, getting started doesn’t mean “dropping into a single class” — we deliberately work in monthly sessions rather than open drop-in classes. That sets us apart from many other dance schools in Berlin, where a choreography gets rushed through in a single hour: with us, you practise a choreography over a full month, come back to class regularly, and refine it until it truly lands — clean, technically sound, with substance. That’s the difference. There’s one exception: through our Urban Sports Club partnership, the first session of the month — our Try-Out Sunday — is also bookable on its own, the perfect way to get a feel for it before committing to the full month.
Where can I find you?
All open classes run at Oudenarder Str. 16-20 in Wedding, well connected and easy to reach. Our second studio at Schleusenufer 4 in Kreuzberg is reserved for crew and creator rehearsals. You'll find the current schedule on our booking page.
